We are looking to fill (as soon as possible) a doctoral position in the
field of molecular enzymology and structural biolog at the Institute of
Molecular Biosciences of the University of Graz, Austria.
The studies aim at providing a detailed biochemical and structural
characterization of the redox-dependent regulation of proteasomal
degradation of transcription factors by a flavin-dependent
NAD(P)H:quinone oxidoreductase, which acts as a redox-switch in the
yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Insights obtained from these
investigations should lead to a better understanding of the molecular
events of transcription factor regulation.
The project is a collaborative effort with the biochemical part being
carried out at the Institute of Biochemistry of Graz University of
Technology (Prof. Peter Macheroux). The structural biology part will be
carried out in our lab at the University of Graz and will cover all
aspects of crystallization and structure determination (by x-ray
crystallography) of the involved proteins and complexes. A special
requirement will be the crystallization of oxygen sensitive samples
under anoxic conditions in a glove box.
The collaborative nature of the project provides excellent training
opportunities and the benefit from a close exchange between biochemistry
and structural biology.
Candidates for this position are expected to have a profound knowledge
of biochemistry and molecular biology. Existing expertise in protein
crystallization and x-ray crystallography is definitely a plus.
Applications including a CV and at least two letters of recommendation
