As someone who posts frequently to the two RFID lists (US and UK), and as
the co-owner of one of them, I can see the problem from both sides. There is
clearly a bit of a dilemma here for the administrators of LIS-LINK since
with, I believe, over 3000 subscribers, the number of complaints seen so far
are just a drop in the ocean. It might however be helpful to hear their
thoughts on the subject?
Given that Gerry (who appears oblivious to criticism) seems to have
something of a reputation for overwhelming other lists, might an alternative
way forward might be to let him have his own - LIS-GERRY - and see how many
people subscribe?

Subject: Re: Posts from Gerry McKieran
I recently wrote to his home university (Iowa State) to alert them to his
unwelcome and inappropriate email behaviour. I did receive a response, but
it was evident that they regard his antics merely as bad netiquette, and
will not take any action.
I was recommended to use the rules facility on Outlook to block his emails.
This course of action is not without its difficulties for someone who is not
particularly technically minded, and it may well be that some institutional
users have certain functionality disabled and cannot make these changes
easily.
If anyone else would like to voice their concerns about his behaviour to his
employing institution, the email address is:

It may be worth noting that he appears to be using a private email address
for many of his postings, rather than his institutional one, presumably
avoiding any monitoring systems in place at Iowa State.

Subject: Posts from Gerry McKieran
Gerry McKieran is renowned for bulk posts to a great many library-
related lists around the world. He also fails to engage with
discussions on lists.
He was recently banned from the LIS-E-BOOKS list after complaints and
a failure to respond:

The #slashgerry Twitter hashtag has been created in order to share the
many ways in which he is abused a variety of communications channels -
