Dear Colleagues,
Please see the details of two short CPD courses in paediatric
neuropsychology below. The draft timetable and application form are
available to download on the website- http://www.ucl.ac.uk/neuropsych/CPD
This year it is possible to study Module 1 only or both Modules 1 & 2. Due
to the neuroanatomy practical classes places are limited and offered on a
first-come basis.
Kind regards,
Peter Rankin
Module 1 Introduction to Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience
Developmental cognitive neuroscience provides the scientific knowledge
underpinning contemporary paediatric neuropsychology practice. Course
participants are introduced to the fundamental principles behind a range
of methodologies including neuroimaging, electrophysiology, genetics and
psychopharmacology. Participants are provided with detailed teaching of
human neuroanatomy via lectures and practical classes with wet human
brains and plastic model brains. If students feel unable to work with
human brains in the neuroanatomy class they are free to opt out.
Recommended Pre-course Reading- Crossman A, Neary D. Neuroanatomy: An
Illustrated Colour Text. Churchill Livingstone, 3rd edition, 2005.
Chapters 1, 5, 6, 11, 13 and 14.
Module 2 Professional Issues for Paediatric Neuropsychologists
This module describes issues associated with the professional practice of
paediatric neuropsychologists within different professional contexts, such
as specialist neuroscience centres, child and adolescent mental health
teams, educational systems, forensic systems and medico-legal work. Course
participants are introduced to a range of paediatric neurological
disorders by leading medical consultants from Great Ormond Street Hospital
including diagnosis, medical and surgical management of epilepsy,
traumatic brain injury, non-accidental brain injury, and neurovascular
disorders.
Course participants are also taught how to use the UCL on-line learning
environment (Moodle) which contains all lecture notes and is accessible
off-site as well as having access to all UCL electronic journal and
library facilities off-site.
