Dear all
Here is the latest updates of new sites from the LSE Library

Voter registration in Africa database

A special project of EISA in conjunction with the UN Electoral Assistance Division (UNEAD). EISA(Electoral Institute for the Sustainability of Democracy in Africa 
 is implementing this project with the support of the UN Electoral Assistance Division (UNEAD).It aims to develop a database of case studies and methodologies relating to voter registration in Africa. Gets free access to an excellent database of full text materials covering most African nations. They include legislation, national government guidelines and regulations, reports from international organisations such as the UNDP, photographs and images of voter cards and voter education documentation.
Afghanistan Digital Library

The Afghanistan Digital Library is a project of New York University Libraries with the support of the National Endowment for the Humanities, The Reed Foundation, and the W.L.S. Spencer Foundation. It is working to digitise as many published works (books, newspapers and reports) from Afghanistan as possible, covering all subject areas published during the period 1871-1930. Its efforts have included the caloguing and digitisation of materials from the New York University Library, British Library and private collectors. It is currently working on materials based in Kabul.
Key topic areas include Afghanistan history. Culture politics. Examples of literature, poetry, historic manuscripts, works relating to Islam. There are also numerous works on Afghan politics, many of which are published in Arabic. Details on copyright are provided on the website.



Legislation Uk

The new official home of Uk legislation online managed by The National Archives <http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/>  on behalf of HM Government. It eventually aims to cover materials from the 13th century onwards. Replacing 2 existing services the OPSI website and revised legislation from the Statute Law Database. 
Currently available
All legislation from 1988 - present day. Updated daily. This includes public general acts, local acts, church measures 
Statutory instruments prior to 1988 are not currently available.
Most pre-1988 primary legislation is available on this site. However, it does not include revisions.
The site can be searched by keyword. There are sections for new legislation, revised legislation, or by type of legislation.


War Era Food posters from the Collection of the National Agricultural Library

Free access to an online exhibition, which has images of home front food posters created by the American government during the first and second world wars. They are subdivided by time span, there is also discussion of posters designed to appeal to women. Each image has credits, copyright information and discussion of the content. A number of promotional film clips from advertisements can also be downloaded from the website. 
This is a good supplement to the British website Ministry of Food http://food.iwm.org.uk/ which is accompanying the current Imperial war Museum exhibition on WWII food rationing.

This site forms part of the university of Ottawa open access repository. It provides free access to abstracts and the full text of books published by the University Press.
There are currently 36 but more are intended to be added.
They date from 1986 onwards.
Topics c covered encompass a wide range of humanities and social science subjects with a special emphasis upon Canadian culture and society. Some items are offered in French only. Copyright information is displayed on the website.

which features an example from the Petshop boys!
Most tutorials are online animated films lasting less than 5 minutes. Copyright and technical information is supplied on the website.


CLIO-Infra

A special project coordinated by IISH  International Institute of Social History Netherlands which is working to  create a set of interconnected historical databases on worldwide social, economic and institutional indicators over the last five centuries. It is particularly interested in providing free access to economic history indicators from 1800 onwards in order to map global poverty and inequality.
Three main datasets will be made available.
Economic performance and living standards:
Data on economic institutions, global labour gender and demography
Human Capital formation, inequality.
At the moment the main website gives information on the project and links to the websites of the participants which in many cases do have some data for downloading
However a central search facility is not yet operational.

Mappiness

Is part of a research project at the London School of Economics. It is an app for the iphone.  Researchers ask participants once a day about their levels of happiness. The aim is to build up a picture of how people's happiness is affected by their physical environment such as levels of pollution access to green space. The project will also plot their geographical location to build up a map of levels of happiness in different location. The website has some interesting news from the project this includes meters of times of the day when people feel most happy and maps of places where people reported being the happiest. Other findings and academic reports related t the project will also be posted there.

The NewspapersSG site is maintained by the National Library Board of Singapore. It provides free access to a digital library of over 20 full text Singapore newspapers covering the period 1831-2006. These include the influential straits times from 1845-2006. In addition it is also possible to search a database of references to articles in an additional 200 newspapers held in microfilm by Singapore Libraries.
