JOIN US FOR DC-2010 IN PITTSBURGH!

The Organizing Committee of DC-2010 has published the final program for the conference athttp://www.asis.org/Conferences/DC2010/program.html. DC-2010 is being held in Pittsburgh, PA, USA, 20-22 October 2010 and is collocated with the Annual Meeting of the American Society for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T).

Celebrating the 15th anniversary of the ubiquitous Dublin Core and the 10th anniversary of the International Conference on Dublin Core and Metadata Applications, DC-2010 promises three exciting days of presentations, hands-on workshops and networking with metadata experts from around the world. The conference program includes a Tutorial track, a peer-reviewed Conference track, Special Sessions and Dublin Core Community Workshop meetings.

TUTORIALS:

The first day of the conference is devoted to tutorials and Dublin Core community meetings. The first tutorial is focused on the basics of Dublin Core with speakers Jane Greenberg, Professor at the School of Information and Library Science, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Jon Phipps, Lead Scientist for Internet Strategies at JES& Co. The second tutorial is focused on helping projects transition from the metadata environment of the early days of Dublin Core and the Web to the emerging environment of the Linked Data and the Semantic Web with speakers Karen Coyle, a consultant and librarian with over thirty years of experience with library technology, and Ron Daniel, a Disruptive Technology Director at Elsevier.

KEYNOTES:

Leading off the second and third days of the program will be two exciting keynote speakers addressing both the celebratory nature of the conference and visions of the metadata path forward. Stuart Weibel, Senior Research Scientist, OCLC Research, and instrumental leader in the launch and management of the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative from its inception in 1994 until 2004, will address "A Metadata Trajectory: What 15 years of Dublin Core Tells Us about Our Future." Michael K. Bergman, CEO and co-founder of Structured Dynamics LLC, a provider of open source products and services to enable the semantic enterprise, will address "Bridging the Gaps: Adaptive Approaches to Data Interoperability."

PAPERS, PROJECT REPORTS& POSTERS:

Throughout the second and third days of DC-2010, a rich, peer-reviewed program of 11 stimulating full papers, 6 project reports, and 10 Posters will be presented and discussed through themed sessions on Principles and Innovations, Libraries and the FRBR Model, Metadata at Work, New Directions in Metadata, Communities and Metadata, and DC in Practice.

SPECIAL& COMMUNITY SESSIONS:

Dublin Core Community Sessions will meet throughout the three days of DC-2010 to introduce participants to the Dublin Core community working mechanisms and to advance the work agendas of those communities. Special Sessions will provide hands-on workshops and networking with metadata researchers and implementers from around the world on topics such as application profile models and requirements and domain models and vocabulary selection and development for linked data.

SOCIALIZING AND NETWORKING:

DC-2010 offers excellent opportunities to engage in discussions about the intellectual and practical issues of metadata and its application in a rapidly evolving networked environment. The Welcome Reception greets participants on Wednesday evening followed by the Conference Dinner at the close of the second day on Thursday. Excellent opportunities to mingle and network are offered throughout the conference.

On-line registration is now open athttp://www.asis.org/Conferences/DC2010/registration.html with early-bird discount available until 10 September 2010. The full program schedule is available athttp://www.asis.org/Conferences/DC2010/program.html.
