I bought this a few years ago and like you say it could have just said "slight contamination (with non vapour pathway) = 600mm cover" (not much surprise there then).
Its full of caveats such as simple covers may be compromised where there are burrowing animals due to intermixing of soils!..maybe we should include the presence of worms etc in the validation reports!
I haven't seen it referred to in years
