Dear All,
I feel that my objectives have probably been achieved in airing some
of the issues that concern me. I am at the moment not clear what the
consequences of not being Registered by the BPS would be, but
presumably, no access to their other facilities, research boards,
funding and the like.
If members of the Community Psychology list are satisfied with this,
then that is how it will be.
I also note that while people who have responded understandably
object to my acting "on their behalf" they do recognise that it would
be quite easy to agree a fee structure, by those representing the
Community Psychology section, and that it might be sensible to do so,
as relatively few people have expressed an opinion one way or the
other, and the options are extremely limited by what other Sections
charge and what people can afford etc. Giving up this little bit of
free-ranging discussion seems a small price to pay for possible
benefits. it doesn't have to be a "rubber stamp" exercise, but the
Plymouth group or whoever, could simply make a decision on what seems
sensible now, and modify later.
I would not claim to be acting on behalf of the Community Psychology
list, as I am plainly not
authorised to do so.
I congratulate David Fryer on all the work put in, and it would have
been nice if he could have congratulated Tybalds in much the same way
on the work our committee put in to community action and the
"unrepresented" whom we all espouse.
I do recommend that some way is found to include the voices of people
in the BPS who voted for the Section, such as a letter in The
Psychologist inviting participation. I would also like to suggest
that Community Psychologists who work in the field might offer to be
paired informally with clinical and educational psychologists who
might benefit from their support, and apply jointly for funding
opportunites.
With this I withdraw my intentions to go further, as this matter has
taken up a lot of my time, and
I do recognise that there are pros and cons both ways. Perhaps the
consequences of not being registered could be posted more fully by
some other correspondent who is in touch with Susan Eppel.
Thank you to all correspondents.
Erica
