Hello again
Well after reading people's emails I told Susan from the BPS firmly that we have not made a decision about membership fees yet and that we would be waiting to come to a consensus and to let me know the consequences of this wait. I have received the following reply:
Hi Sally
Without a fee members cannot be registered to join – fees are only considered once a year by the Trustees so the next opportunity will be next August
I believe the Member Network Services Manager has already prepared a paper for the Board of Trustees for their meeting in September with the fee as mentioned.
The Section will need financial resources to function and the fee is an annual one – currently being set at £15 but as I mentioned if you wanted to reduce this to £10 and £5 for students we will need to know by Monday latest.
Best wishes
Susan
So it's £10 and £5 concessions or we wait till next August - otherwise the fee is going to be set for us at the original cost (£15 and £5). That seems like a long wait for a decision that we may have not have much control over at this point - compared to the control we would have after a year when we can look at our budget ourselves and change the fees.
This seems a case of letting a battle go to try and win the war? But please do let me know what you think so I can let the BPS know.
Thanks
Sally
