Hi Jodie,
Possible solutions that meet the client's requirement are as follows:
(1) has word sentence prediction when typing ...
Use the AutoText feature in Microsoft Word - I believe that Word is available for both Windows and the Mac.
In a Word 2003 document the procedure is as follows:
- Type the sentence or phrase to be 'predicted', highlight it, then go to <Insert>/<AutoText>/<AutoText> on the Word menu bar.
- The AutoCorrect Window should appear ... if not already preselected, select the AutoText tab.
- Ensure that the 'Show AutoComplete Suggestions' check box is ticked.
- Type a unique aide-mémoire for the sentence or phrase to be 'predicted', which should be least four characters, then click <Add> (AutoCorrect Window disappears) to return to your Word document.
- To recall, start typing the aide-mémoire for the sentence or phrase to be 'predicted' - Word should recognise the aide-mémoire before you finish typing it - hit <Enter> to accept recall of the entire sentence or phrase offered.
(2) can read all documents including powerpoint ...
One of the better Text To Speech Converters (Software), which has accumulated a number of awards, is 2nd Speech Center at:
http://www.zero2000.com/2nd-speech-center/index.html
Cost is $39.95 USD.
Unfortunately 2nd Speech Center does not appear at present to support PowerPoint files … for this try PowerTalk 1.2.11 - Automatic speech for PowerPoint presentations at:
http://fullmeasure.co.uk/powertalk/
FREE!
(3) has realistic voice output ...
CereProc sells some of the most - if not the best - natural sounding Windows and Mac Voices currently available for between £26 -£30 a voice at:
http://www.cereproc.com/
If you discover a voice that is better than CereProc's, then please let me know!
(NB: SAPI compliant voice converters are preferable; both 2nd Speech Center and PowerTalk support SAPI compliant voices. Apparently it is possible to have both SAPI 4 & 5 installed on the same machine. )
4) has an equivalent system for MAC as he has both a MS based laptop and IPad (this is not so essential)
Have not managed to locate a Mac equivalent for item (2) above …
