Keith,
As you will know - the 'minery' on Mendip was a lead ore processing
area. Are we seeing the transfer of the term to calamine processing -
perhaps the re-processing of waste - although reference to a 'miner'
does suggest underground operations.
Gough, The Mines of Mendip, at page 226, suggests that calmine
operations at Shipham had ceased by 1853 but he is citing a secondary
source - operations at Harptree continued until much later.
