Dear All,
The Collections Trust has today responded to the Government announcement that the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) will cease operation by April 2012. Collections Trust CEO, Nick Poole, commented:
'The Collections Trust has long enjoyed a positive and constructive relationship with the MLA, and together we have made significant advances in supporting museums, archives and libraries in delivering frontline services.
We note today’s announcement with sadness, but also applaud the recognition by the Secretary of State of the need to maintain investment in the standards and best practice which have made our cultural organisations among the best in the world.
We are also glad that the announcement has been made sufficiently early to be able to set arrangements in place to ensure that UK museums, archives and libraries continue to receive the very best support we can offer. The Collections Trust will continue to support the sector through our flagship programmes – OpenCulture, SPECTRUM, Collections Link and the Culture Grid – and to focus on delivering next-generation products and services with our wide range of partners in the UK and internationally.
We are currently working with MLA and DCMS to understand the full implications of the announcement, and to discuss how vital services such as Museum Accreditation and related standards can be sustained.'
