Senior Statistician, United Kingdom
Contract - 6 months with a view to extend
A unique job opportunity has just opened up as a Senior Statistician for a leading global pharmaceutical company.
You will provide a comprehensive statistical service for the Company and be responsible for all statistical
aspects of the clinical trials to which they have been allocated.
RESPONSIBILITIES
PROBLEM SOLVING & INNOVATION
1. Design statistical studies for the analysis of clinical trials; formulating the hypotheses and objectives
2. Provide a statistical quality control service while studies are in progress
3. Assess the impact on the statistical analysis of changes made during the study
4. Perform the statistical analyses of clinical trials and answer statistical queries on the analysis or results
5. Ensure that the case report forms capture the data in the format most suitable for the statistical analysis
6. Decide with Project Team which subjects will be included in relevant analysis.
BUSINESS IMPACT
1. Develop a written strategy for the statistical analysis of the trial
2. Co-author of the clinical protocols, the clinical trial reports and publication
3. Review and help generate papers from the results of the clinical studies
4. Document all statistical analysis programs
5. Archive all the computer files at the end of each study
6. Maintain knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), CPMP and ICH guidelines and take responsibility for those relating to statistical issues
7. Keep abreast of new developments in statistical methodology
8. Produce material that is clear, concise and complete.
LEADERSHIP & TEAMWORK
1. Operate as a full member of team, providing support and advice and sharing information
2. Liase with other teams or departments regarding the resolution/ response to issues or problems
3. Assist in providing training for new personnel
4. Identify own training/ development needs within the team
5. Seek out and build technical competence through training and learning from colleagues
6. Share knowledge and technical expertise with other team members to assist their learning.
COMMUNICATION
1. Advise and train other departments on statistical matters
2. Analyse HE, Marketing and Animal Health research and development data
3. Escalate any statistical issues within the Company and ensure they are addressed
4. Respond to statistical queries arising from published papers and promotional material distributed by competitors
5. Perform meta analyses and other unplanned analyses as required
6. Provide input to working groups set up to standardise handling of statistical issues across all of BI.
STRATEGY & PLANNING
1. Manage contract staff to ensure meeting standards and timelines.
DECISION MKAING AUTHORITY
1. Makes decisions regarding statistical matters and recommends improvements to statistical procedures and processes
2. Prioritise own workload on a daily basis
3. Escalate problems or complaints to the Team Leader for resolution.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
1. Educated to degree level in statistics or mathematics
2. At least 2 years experience as a medical statistician OR hold an MSc/PHD in statistics
3. An overview of Oracle Clinical structure and processes
4. Knowledge of SAS and current statistical guidelines in Europe and the US
5. Knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs )
6. Experience in report writing
