Good morning all. Just thought I'd let you know how the new graphic novels category of the Sheffield Children's Book Award was getting on.
The final shortlist of five books (it would have been six but the suppliers failed to provide us with copies of 'Batman: Whatever Happened To The Caped Crusader?') was decided upon using a wide range of factors and each participating secondary school in Sheffield was sent a full set to distribute to the students/judges and to gather in their reviews and ratings. These last two weeks of the summer term will see all the individual votes going to the award organisers. The final winner of this award will be announced at the ceremony at Sheffield City Hall in November. The shortlist is as follows:
Magneto: Testament by Carmine Di Giandomenico and Greg Pak
Vampire Knight: Volume 5 by Matsuri Hino
Manga Shakespeare: Twelfth Night by Nana Li, Richard Appignanesi, and William Shakespeare
Grandville by Bryan Talbot
Captain America: The Man With No Face by Luke Ross, Steve Epting, and Ed Brubaker
I've also been fortunate enough to receive permission from the one and only Stan Lee to name this award after him! Obviously this is a massive honour and I hope you'll be as excited as I am to see who the winner of the inaugural winner of the Stan Lee Award is. And I promise I'll come up with a catchier title for it than that!
Please feel free to reply with any thoughts you might have or points of interest you'd like to raise.
Thanks.
