Hello Ruth
You would need to see permission from the copyright owner for 'non-theatrical rights' - that is you would not charge a fee to show the material. Some video content owners sell rights to use clips - often with an educational discount.
Good luck... Linda

Subject: [PSCI-COM] Copyright and use of video clips in education sessions
Dear Psci-com,
Apologies for any cross-posts.
I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the copyright laws surrounding the use of small sections of film from DVDs (e.g. BBC wildlife documentaries) in educational sessions.
As an Education Officer at London Zoo there are a wealth of resources at hand to engage school children (including live animals and animal artefacts from HM Customs and Excise). However, we feel that there are some topics where video clips of real animals could be a invaluable aid and add yet another dimension to the learning experience, but we are unsure about how we are allowed to use them.
For example if we wanted to illustrate adaptations for defence by showing a short excerpt of something like an armadillo curling up from, say, a BBC wildlife documentary, would we need to seek permission or even pay for a licence?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Many thanks,
Ruth
