I am not convinced that an SGV for asbestos is possible.
There are many forms of 'asbestos'. This is like saying is there an SGV for
TPH?! (sorry...)
From my personal experience of asbestos analysis quantification does not
make any sense due to the many forms of asbestos (cummingtonite anyone?
Sorry, again). No wonder it is always sat around on shelves.
Imagine being the officer that allowed asbestos to remain on site (deemed
safe by the SGV) and then people claim for contracting asbestosis. That
would be difficult to defend I would imagine. I wouldn't want it to be me
seeing some child get it that's for sure. I'd be happier leaving 2000mg/kg
Lead on site in the soil quite frankly.
Hands up all of those who would feel happy with fibrous asbestos in their
gardens.....
(not me.)

If only there was a asbestos SGV in sight would make my job in having a
big former asbestos plant in my area a lot easier and other CLO's as
well!
Have heard a few rumours but nothing advanced and would be very
surprised if anything does occur come out soon as well!
Good luck.

Morning All
There have been several postings in the past on this forum about
acceptable levels of asbestos in topsoil. These range from 0.001%
(ICRCL quoted value) to 0.01% (cut-off for haz waste classification for
carcinogenic material). In our experience, as there is no definitive
guidance on the issue, we find that early and hopefully , pragmatic
discussions with CLOs is often the best way forward.
My question; is anyone aware of any new, definitive, updated guidance on
this issue. I know that an asbestos SGV was muted some time back.
Regards
Andy O'Dea
