Dear all,
as a followup to recent discussions about attachments and their
underlying problems, I uploaded the figures from Bernhard Rupp's book
"Biomolecular Crystallography" to the CCP4 user wiki, with permission by
the author. The article is at
http://strucbio.biologie.uni-konstanz.de/ccp4wiki/index.php/Examples_of_electron_density
There is
o 1.1 Cis-peptide bond and its electron density
o 1.2 Covalently modified residues
o 1.3 Covalent binding of ligands
o 1.4 Additives mediating intermolecular contacts
o 1.5 Heavy-atom derivatization of a protein
o 1.6 The trimeric bacterial outer membrane protein OprP
o 1.7 Chemically modified lysine residue (Dimethyllysine)
o 1.8 Glycosylated residues stabilizing homodimer
o 1.9 Uranium-atom solution and Fourier truncation ripples
o 1.10 Solvent molecules (water, MPD, Mg2+)
o 1.11 Split side-chain conformations
o 1.12 Se-Met residues and chloride ion
The figures have a high quality, are fully annoted (by BR), and can be
linked to (e.g.
http://strucbio.biologie.uni-konstanz.de/ccp4wiki/index.php/Examples_of_electron_density#Chemically_modified_lysine_residue_.28Dimethyllysine.29
). I believe they can serve as excellent examples for discussion and
teaching.
HTH,
Kay
P.S. Like any wiki article, this article too is meant to be expanded,
which is reflected by its paragraph structure. But this is definitively
a great start. Thanks to Bernhard !
