I dearly love ccp4mg and use it a lot, but it has to be said that it is still a bit crashy. I know Stuart & Liz are continuously trying to make it less so.
Two pieces of advice:
File -> Save as default status ... when you have set up a complicated scene
Keep up to date (Tools -> Check for updates) - version 2.4.1 is definitely better (though alas still not immune to crashing)
and (to Liz & Stuart) I do think it's great
