*_UCL Centre for European Studies and German Department
Impact Studentships in German Jewish Culture and European Film_***
* *UCL Centre for European Studies and the German Department are
offering two Impact studentships in the fields set out below. Each
studentship will cover half the UK/EU fees and half a stipend equivalent
to AHRC funding for three years (£15,290 in AY 2009-10) from 1 October
2010. In addition the Faculty of Arts and Humanities will contribute a
further £2, 500 per studentship. The successful candidates will be
expected to contribute to teaching as a Teaching Assistant (up to 40
contact hours per academic year), for which training and supervision
will be provided.
_Eligibility_: Due to funding restrictions, these studentships are
funded for UK or EU applicants only. Candidates should have a good BA
degree and an MA in a relevant field.
_Application procedure and closing date_: Applicants should send THREE
COPIES of a c.v. and a 2-page research proposal, in hard copy, to Dr
Judith Beniston, Department of German, UCL, London, WC1E 6BT, by 31 July
2010.
*1. Aspects of German Jewish Culture since the Enlightenment*
Expressions of interest are invited from students wishing to research
any area of German Jewish culture since the Enlightenment. Proposals
focussing on one of the following areas will be particularly welcome:
Jewish Austrian writing
* Contemporary Jewish German and Jewish Austrian writing
* Drama and / or theatre history
* Journalism / the press
* German-Yiddish interactions
The project will be supervised by Dr Judith Beniston, Department of
German, if appropriate with co-supervision by Dr Helen Beer, Department
of Hebrew and Jewish Studies.
*2. European and German film*
Proposals are invited from students wishing to research in the general
area of European film including a comparative element with German film.
Proposals covering any period will be considered, but those focussing on
the reverberations of the Second World War, how it is remembered and how
its representation constructs European identity, will be particularly
welcome.
The project will be supervised by Dr Stephanie Bird or Dr Mererid Puw
Davies and by a colleague from a relevant department within the Centre
for European Studies.
