E-discovery (electronic discovery), also known as e-disclosure, can be described as the process of identifying, preserving, collecting, preparing, reviewing and producing electronically stored information.
Not all e-discovery is imposed by the courts.
E-discovery can also be used to assist organizations in complying with their regulatory obligations; responding to requests under the Freedom of Information Act; retrieving information in response to audits; preserving intellectual property, business and corporate knowledge; facilitating the proper storage and, avoiding the loss of, information.
