Dear Colleagues,
The Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) of the Norwegian
Refugee Council (www.internal-displacement.org) wishes to draw the
attention of list members to the fact that the current UN Representative
of the Secretary General on the Human Rights of IDPs, Walter Kälin, will
be ending his term in October 2010. The RSG on IDPs has played an
important role in advocating with and supporting national authorities to
address situations of internal displacement as well as UN agencies (and
their partners) to mainstream the human rights of IDPs into the UN
system, in particular in the area of humanitarian action.
The vacancy for this UN special procedures mandate has been announced
and the deadline for nominations is 25 June 2010. The IDMC encourages
list members to raise awareness about this vacancy with potential
candidates who have a strong human rights background, a sound
understanding of humanitarian action and the UN system as well as time
to devote to the mandate, including for frequent travel for country
missions and meetings in Geneva.
The application form and more information in this regard can be found
