VSN International is a vibrant, growing and profitable company that develops data analysis software. It was formed in 2000 as a spin-off from the Numerical Algorithms Group and Rothamsted Research (an institute of the BBSRC) and is part-owned also by its staff. Our core product GenStat is the only general-purpose statistics system to be developed in Europe. GenStat originally began at Rothamsted in the late 1960s, and has a thriving international user base across more than 100 countries. We wish to recruit an innovative software engineer to assist with the further development of GenStat, as well as new products for visualization and data analysis.

Main Duties
To work as part of the VSNi technical team, developing GenStat and new products.
To design, implement, test and document visual interfaces to VSNi's mathematical and statistical algorithms
To implement and test mathematical and statistical algorithms.
To make presentations at conferences, courses or workshops.
To assist with product support, and undertake consulting tasks.
To assist in the development of the VSN website
Knowledge and Skills
A Computer Science degree or a Mathematics degree together with substantial knowledge of computing.
Experience of developing applications in the MS Windows environment
Experience of programming languages such as C++, C#,
Knowledge of toolkits for building web-based interfaces.
Knowledge of database technology
Experience of UNIX (Linux).
Experience of statistical or mathematical software would also be advantageous
Skills and attributes
Ability to understand the mathematical basis of statistical or data-analysis algorithms.
Ability to break an algorithm down into its basic components for efficient implementation.
Ability to program meticulously, and to design and execute comprehensive testing programmes.
Ability to design output in forms readily interpretable by non-specialists.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and explain mathematical or statistical concepts clearly to non-specialists.
Ability to learn about and research into new methodology.
Ability to take on-board other peoples' ideas.
Ability to work effectively as a member of a team, supporting colleagues and accepting advice.
Resilience and cheerfulness under pressure.
