I want to express my appreciation to those who have understood and
considered the following:
Aside from a few snapshot poems and availability to Stephen for
consultation (required only once, as I recall) I have not been active
on the list for several months. Stephen seems to have coped quite well
on his own.
Stephen left early yesterday morning -- a bit over 24 hours ago, now.
I came into the list to check in. Cold. To find that things were on
the verge of explosion. Interesting timing, no?
I chose to give myself some time to get up to speed; things are not,
as I have learned, always what they seem at first glance. It is also
my practice to attempt slight interventions before leaping to extreme
interventions. This is what I did. And this is how I will continue to
act, so long as I remain an owner of this list. I am always open to
not remaining so.
This situation brings me to believe that we need more clarity in our
guidelines. I will give some attention to this as energy allows over
the next few days.
Again, my thanks to those who demonstrated patience and understanding
through this process.
To those who did not, I say this:
My expectation is that, in future, all will follow the guidelines as
laid out by JISCMail, and previously posted by me. Specifically, I
expect -- in private email conversations and back-channel discussions
with me as well as messages posted to the list -- that the following
rules apply:
* Don't call someone names or be rude, sarcastic or condescending
* Complain to the list owner - not the list
And -- personal attacks (on me, or on any list member) are not
acceptable. Not acceptable to me, and not acceptable on the list. No
matter how provoked. No matter how well-earned, in your estimation.
That's it for the moment.
Carry on.
