Knowledge Transfer Officer
Cardiff School of Mathematics
Salary scale £29,853 - £35,646 p.a (three year full-time appointment)
As a Knowledge Transfer Officer (KTO), your primary role will be to assist the Cardiff School of Mathematics and the Wales Institute for Mathematical and Computational Sciences (WIMCS – see www.wimcs.ac.uk) in initiating, fostering and supporting knowledge transfer activities between the School/Institute and external organisations, such as business, industry, public bodies and research councils. You will identify opportunities for research and consultancy activities, and support the Cardiff School of Mathematics teaching programmes through the acquisition of student placements on both our undergraduate degrees (as part of student’s professional training) and postgraduate degrees (for two new MSc courses in Operational Research and Statistics).
You should be highly computer literate, with excellent organisational, analytical and communication skills. You should also have the ability to use initiative and take responsibility. Knowledge of the Mathematical Sciences is highly desirable as the role requires you to communicate with employers of Operational Researchers, Statisticians and Mathematicians, and be able to promote the School’s research and teaching activities for these disciplines.
Initially, the post is for a fixed term of three years, but if the appointee successfully develops the role, it is probable that consideration will be given to its extension.
The post is available from 1st August 2010. For further details and an application pack, visit www.cardiff.ac.uk/jobs. The vacancy number is 2010/0215. Deadline for applications is 11th June 2010 and it is anticipated that interviews will take place on 29th June 2010.
