Eleanor,
When I was in FE I found one of the most useful things I could do was ask the students what they felt they needed in the way of resources. Tutors in FE rarely have the time or the inclination to talk to the Library, but as I saw the students every day I was able to take (sensible!) suggestions and purchased resources on the basis of student needs. They can also provide information about the syllabus as they are the ones doing the assignments at the end of the day and will be the end users of the resources.
I found that once I'd purchased resources, I would grab staff from relevant subject areas on the fly and get them to look at them there and then - they were always impressed and able to incorporate them into their teaching.
Personal touch is always the easiest way - build relationships with staff and students, appreciate the staff haven't got time to read a ton of stuff produced by the library, and catch them when you can! By meeting students' needs you can usually get the staff on board :-)
Other than that, any resources which save them time, money and energy are much appreciated!! E.g. instant lesson planning creators, easy to use resources, cut n paste applications, etc.

Subject: Subject liaison at FE colleges
Hello,
At West Cheshire College, the learning staff have convened subject liaison meetings to ask three principle questions: what do areas need from us, what do we need from them and how better do we communicate? We spent a while discussing communication, in particular how to get to those hard to reach tutors who never come into the Learning Centre, don't appear to use the VLE or webpages etc (they may be hourly paid, evening staff etc).
Does anyone have any experience of successsfully passing on how we can help tutors in the FE, vocational, environment?
Many thanks,
Eleanor
