Hi,
We are running a repository of metadata for educational resources, using the
LOM standard, and VDEX for classification. We are looking at the way ahead,
and one need we have identified is a tool for vocabulary mapping. Most
terminology editors we know of seem to focus on vocabulary edition rather
than mapping; and mapping is implemented as a special case of generic
relationship definition. As a consequence, for each relationship, we have to
identify the target hierarchy and navigate through it, which can be
time-consuming for large vocabularies. We would like to know whether you
know of tools that have been effectively used for large-scale hierarchy
mapping and whether their user interface takes those issues into accounts.
We are considering the very specific case where equivalence relationships
are made between most entries of two vocabularies, using a small vocabulary
of relationships (such as ISO 2788, ISO 5964, or SKOS mapping vocabulary.)
Though we are using VDEX, we would like to know about tools using other
vocabulary representation formats: SKOS, ZThes, Topic maps, etc.
We are considering the possibility of implementing such a tool ourselves, if
none can be found that fulfills our needs; we are also interested in knowing
whether you think it could be seen as useful in your community; and in that
case, what would then be your community's technical requirements to adopt
it.
Any comment or feedback would be welcome
