Dear list members,
I am looking for willing participants to take part in my research on the ‘future of retention schedules’. This is for my Records Management MSc dissertation which is charting the history (past, present and future) of retention schedules - focusing on their design and application.
For such an invaluable tool for Records Managers there appears to have been little discussion and therefore development in the design and use of retention schedules. Are word-processed retention schedules still fit for purpose in this ‘digital age’? How has the shift from Records Managers ‘doing’ to ‘advising’ changed the audience of the retention schedule? Why is there no universal tried and tested retention schedule template or software available for UK organisations? This research is not about retention rules or guidance, it is about design.
I am forming an online focus group on Google Wave. The focus group will run between Monday 21st Sunday 27th June 2010. Participants will be able to take part by submitting their concerns, experiences, reflections and even any ideas for the future, at any times convenient during that week. Participants will be able to collaborate with others in the group either in real-time or in your own time at any point during that week.
If you would like to take part in this focus group please contact me by 28th May 2010 off list at: [log in to unmask] . I will provide Google Wave invites and instructions.
A note about ethical practice in research - I must inform potential participants that I plan to publish my research, if successful enough. Participants can choose to remain anonymous in the research write-up, however due to the nature of googlewave your fellow participants will see your googlewave email and name. Northumbria University strives to uphold the highest standards of ethical practice in research and academic integrity. Irrespective of the nature and ethical complexity of a research project, staff and students are expected to ensure that their conduct is driven by the ethical imperative of respect, the intent to do no harm and to contribute to society’s knowledge and practice through engagement in research that has beneficent intent.
Many thanks,
Katharine
