I've not made the kind of use you envisage - I mainly use it as bibliiography software. However, you can attach tags to more than one item at a time (i.e. select a set and tag them all); and you can put the same item in as many folders as you like - so you can put an interview recording in 'not yet transcribed' and in other folders - then simply remove it from the 'not yet transcribed' folder when it's done.
The forum is quite useful and there's a lot of info there too.

Subject: Re: Software for managing as opposed to analyzing data
Hi!
This was a very productive suggestion. After playing around with Zotero
for a while, I am quite impressed with the functionality. Best of all,
for me, is the potentals for collaboration, that is precisely what I need.
However, there are a lot of questions remaining. One of them might be
adequate for this list:
As I understand it, the way to manage a dataset is to use tags, that so
to speak provides the functionality that relations does in a database -
linking stuff together with other stuff. That means to me that I need to
set a number of tags to most items, and do so in a rather systematic
way. Arranging sets, cases, sites, persons, types of interactions
observed etc. As well as categorizing status of files (transcribed,
transcription in progress, not transcribed, etc.). some of this can be
done through naming and file endings (for instance, mp3 being a sound
file).
Am I on the right track here?
If so - any suggestions on how to do this in as easy as possible? How do
you who alreday use Zotero really do these things? Anyone got a list of
tips & tricks suitable for social science researchers, that goes beyond
the documentation on the zotera site?
Best,
Magnus
