Colleagues
As you will have noticed there has been an interesting discussion going on
about the different means by which stock can be returned on this list over
the last few days. Some of it from libraries using RFID and some not.
I have been copying messages across between LIS-LINK and LIB-RFID because
the topic will also be of interest to those using or considering using RFID
in their libraries.
I am aware that in some countries RFID is still viewed as being synonymous
with self-check (or self-issue) but it is now much more pervasive than that
- a point John Blyberg <http://librarygang.talis.com/john-blyberg/> made
during yesterday's podcast recording for the Library 2.0 gang. For almost
any area of library operation there is now both a barcode-based and an RFID
solution on the market. In addition the debate on SIP 3.0 and the future of
LMS(ILS)/RFID integration is mostly taking place on the RFID list rather
than anywhere else.
Anyone seeking to automate their existing procedures may therefore well be
considering an RFID approach as one of their options.
Would it be worth considering posting messages relating to physical library
operations to both lists? There are a lot of helpful people on the RFID list
that might not subscribe to LIS-LINK.
Just a thought
