Dear Martin,
Yes this sounds like the problem that we have had at Aston when loading in records with diacritics. It is to do with the format the records are in and that your load table is set up for. For example, one of our suppliers was using UTF-8 for their Marc records and another was using Latin 1. The load table we used to upload the records in data exchange was using UTF-8 encoding (we are a Unicode site) which meant that all the records from the Latin 1 supplier had squiggles and other strange characters in the records instead of the diacritics, as the UTF-8 Load table could not correctly translate the Latin 1 coding for these diacritics.
You will need to contact your suppliers to see what coding they use for Marc records and also check with Innovative to see what coding your load tables are using. You might have to assign a different load table to each supplier by the sound of it, which is what we are planning to do.
If you already have squiggles etc in your records you can run a create list and then use global update to change the faulty characters. I had a document from the helpdesk to say which diacritic went with each character in Latin 1 to help me do this and I can send that do you if you would like or is you need further information. My email is [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Emma
