Hello,
I wonder if there is mileage in thinking about not only the obvious remakes but also works which might be called "homages" or
more negatively plagiarism. In terms of re-makes that are a consequence of invention we might consider Hawks' re-make of 'The
Front Page', 'His Girl Friday' where one of the central characters is transformed into a woman, this really is a re-make. In the
second instance, we might argue that Haneke in 'Cache' borrows the central narrative device from Lynch's 'Lost Highway', even
going so far as to use the same name 'Laurent'. Now clearly the second is not a remake as such but might be seen as so form of
salute or at worst simple plagiarism. By the way, Wider's version of 'The Front Page', is that a remake of the Milestone film or
the Hawks film?
