SUBJECT CENTRES AIDE MEMOIRE
As colleagues will know, there is currently a lively debate about the future shape of the HE Academy and the role of the Subject Centres within it. We have drafted a short aide-memoire setting out the role and value of Subject Centres as they have developed over the past 10 years:

NEW CASE STUDY: OVERSEAS AID IN THE DRAGONS' DEN
The idea underlying this interactive class session is to get students to think about some of the key issues surrounding the provision of overseas aid.

THE STUDENT LEARNING AND TEACHING NETWORK – CALL FOR NEW MEMBERS
Please pass the following information on to any students and recent graduates who might be interested:
We invite any undergraduate or postgraduate students to volunteer for five available positions on the Student Learning and Teaching Network Committee. The positions will run from summer 2010 to September 2011.
If you are interested in becoming a committee member please email [log in to unmask] including your name, institution, degree course and year and a short written statement (250 words max) outlining your interest in the position and any experience of active involvement in learning and teaching you may have. The deadline for applications is Friday 28th May 2010

2. NOTICEBOARD

LEARNING AND TEACHING AWARDS
We are pleased to invite nominations from the economics community for our annual Learning and Teaching Awards. Scheme. The Awards are open to UK-based academics who have demonstrated excellent commitment, enthusiasm and effectiveness in their teaching practices.
There are three main categories: Outstanding Teaching, eLearning and Student Nominated. Every year the awards attract a wide range of entries and we are looking forward to another successful year. Each of the categories highlights a key area in the teaching of Economics.
The deadline for nominations is Wednesday 30th June 2010 and the winner of each category will receive £250.

National Workshop: eLearning Symposium
Bristol, Thursday 9 September
This event will present a range of the latest technologies suitable for supporting economics teaching and research. There will be plenty of hands-on opportunities to try out technologies as well as workshop sessions including case studies and demonstrations.
