…creativity and place, creativity in place, creativity about place, creativity as practices of place…creative place-making, creative industries, site-specific/site responsive works, politics of display, creative clusters, art schools, regeneration, festivals, identity…governance, policy, practice, critique, collaboration….
Issues of creativity and place are currently of compelling significance as fields of scholarly research, sites of artistic practice and arenas of public interest. This interdisciplinary conference brings together academics, art historians, art theorists and arts practitioners to discuss the geographies of creativity.
Key-note speakers include:
Professor Phil Crang (Department of Geography, Royal Holloway, University of London)
Professor Wendy Larner (School of Geography, University of Bristol)
Professor Sam Smiles (Art History, University of Plymouth and Tate Britain)
Across the three days a series of papers, panels, practitioner presentations and creative participatory activities bring together a range of research and practice on geography and creativity, this includes;
• Geographical analysis of art, craft, hobby and play practices
· Creative industries literatures on creative clusters; networks and creative practices as well as work on the governance of the sector and the politics of immaterial labour
· Contemporary art theory and art history on the relationship between artistic practices and place (from the analysis of Art Schools and colonies to the development of site-specific art works and relational/ participatory art practices)
· Literatures on creativity and innovation in relation to everyday practices
· Economic geographies of creativity and the new knowledge economy
· Creative practices as geographical research practices
