DEADLINE EXTENDED FOR THE GEORGE PRIESTLEY GRADUATE STUDENT AWARD, CARIBBEAN STUDIES ASSOCIATION (CSA)

The Caribbean Studies Social Justice Graduate Student Paper Award is being established in honor of Dr. George Priestley in recognition of his lifelong contributions to social justice, anti-racism, HIV/AIDS awareness, the Afro-Latino identity, and international human rights issues. Dr. Priestley was a key member of the CSA executive committee for many years who unselfishly gave his time and leadership to the organization in capacity of executive council member and program chair. This award honors a graduate student attending the 2010 conference whose paper is focused on the areas that were most important to Dr. Priestley. Graduate students can self nominate their papers or they can be nominated by a current CSA member. All graduate student papers submitted for consideration for this award will be judged based on excellence in scholarship, methodology and creativity in any of the following areas: Social justice, anti-racism, HIV/AIDS awareness, Afro-Latino identity and international human rights issues as they pertain to Latin America or the Caribbean both regionally and/or in the diasporic community. The award will consist of a plaque and $200 dollars.

The award committee is composed of three current CSA members and one member of the Priestley family. The award will be presented at the 2010 CSA awards night in Barbados. The award nominee will need to submit her/his package by May 14, 2010 for full consideration.

The award nominee must be a current graduate student enrolled at a university who is presenting their work at the 2010 CSA conference in Barbados. An application packet needs to consists of the following items:

1. An electronic letter of nomination
2. An electronic copy of the nominee’s current resumé or curriculum vitae.
3. An electronic copy of the nominee’s final research paper.

La Asociación de Estudios del Caribe establecerá el premio Justicia Social George Priestley para la ponencia del estudiante con licenciatura.  Dicho premio es en honor y en reconocimiento del trabajo del Dr. George Priestley quien durante su vida hizo aporte y contribuyo al debate de justicia social, antirracismo, conocimiento y conciencia del problema del VIH/SIDA, identidad Afro-Latina, y la problemática de derechos humanos a nivel internacional.

El Dr. Priestley fue uno de los miembros claves del comité ejecutivo de la AEC por muchos anos quien aporto  generosamente su tiempo y liderazgo a esta organización como miembro del cónsul ejecutivo y presidente.

Este premio honra al estudiante con licenciatura que acuda a la conferencia del 2010 y cuya ponencia enfoque las áreas que fueron de mas importancia para el Dr. Priestley.  Dicho estudiante podrá auto nominar su ponencia o puede ser nominado por un miembro corriente de  la AEC.  Todas las ponencias sometidas por estos estudiantes para consideración, serán juzgadas  a base de dominio del tema, metodología y creatividad en cualquiera de las siguientes áreas;  Justicia Social, Anti-Racismo, conciencia del VIH/SIDA, identidad Afro Latina y la problemática de Derechos Humanos  tanto a nivel regional y/o en la comunidad en la diáspora.  El premio será de una placa  y  $200.00  dólares. 

El comité nominador estará compuesto de tres personas que actualmente son miembros de  la AEC y un miembro  de la familia Priestley.  El premio se presentara la noche de premios  en la conferencia  de  la AEC del 2010 que tendrá lugar en Barbados.        

La persona nominada deberá someter su paquete lo mas tardar Mayo 14, 2010 para ser considerado de lleno.  Además, debe   tener una  licenciatura, estar matriculado en una Universidad  y presentar su trabajo en la conferencia de  la  AEC en Barbados.  El paquete de   aplicación  debe contener lo siguiente:

1.  Una carta electrónica de  nominación.   
2.  Una copia electrónica del mas resiente resumen o currículum vitae del candidato[a].
3.  Una copia electrónica de la versión final del  papel de investigación.
