A few weeks ago I introduced Kaggle, a platform for data prediction
competitions. The platform has produced better results than we could
have hoped for. For the bioinformatics competition currently on the site
(http://kaggle.com/hivprogression), the best submission had outdone the
best methods in the scientific literature within a week and a half. This
is particularly surprising when you consider that the prize is just $500
and the opportunity to co-author a paper with the competition host.
We're looking to repeat this feat. If you are interested in hosting a
competition on Kaggle, please get in touch
([log in to unmask]).
For info, Kaggle featured on the BBC's statistics show More or Less last
night (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/programmes/more_or_less/default.stm).
The Kaggle section starts at the 23 minute mark - but the whole show is
great.
