David,
At the risk of being shot down in flames (again) I have no problem with sharing my SOPs with the world and his wife if asked nicely. Yes strictly speaking they are the author's intellectual property. However I have yet to find anyone willing to pay for my SOPs, but if anyone would like to, then please form an orderly queue. Generally I am asked by people who have newly acquired equipment that we have in common. I see no point in reinventing the wheel and hope that on a quid pro quo basis that they will then share an SOP or two with me when asked.

Subject: F.O.I requests
Do you consider requests for S.O.Ps to be a legitimate use of F.O.I. I am of the opinion that S.O.Ps can be construed as the intellectual property of the institution where they were produced. They have intrinsic value requiring time and resources in their production. Their preparation is based on expert knowledge and experience.
Surely F.O.I legislation was not passed to facilitate plagiarism or piracy?
Regards, David.
