CONSULTANCY OPPORTUNITY: ARCHIVES AT RISK
The British Records Association is currently undertaking a short project on risks to archive collections in two English regions, London and the East of England. We are therefore seeking a consultant to work with us to establish sound methodology, ensure good practice in data collection and undertake information gathering and assessment, mainly in a desk based role. The deadlines are challenging, as we would hope to have some preliminary, indicative, findings by the beginning of September and an initial draft report by mid October. We intend that the final report should encourage discussion in the archives sector of the issues raised and inform the future strategy of the Association itself.
The successful consultant will have a proven track record of effective research, analysis and report writing, with a capacity to present strategic issues in a lucid manner. Familiarity with archive services and record holding bodies in the two regions will be necessary, as will a sound understanding of the diversity of historical archives found in those regions. Given the background of a challenging timetable, the consultant should have a demonstrable ability to plan and deliver a robust and realistic schedule of work while enabling the Association to achieve value for money.
Expressions of interest are invited by the Association from suitably qualified and experienced consultants. Further information about the project is available from Dr Anthony Smith, Chair of the Association’s Records Preservation Section ([log in to unmask]), to whom formal applications should be addressed by noon on 18 May 2010.
