Ed, I also agree, it's a scute from a turtle carapace. To get more info,
try going over to the American Museum of Natural History website and
search for papers by Bobb Schaeffer -- he did a lot of work in the 1970's
ande 1980's on turtle I.D. -- Deb Bennett
