Rumour has it that the Social Science Research Council became the Economic
and Social Research Council because that famous scientist, Mrs Thatcher,
objected to the "Science" in the title.

Are the social science researchers mentioned in the event title uneasy about
being identified as scientists? (Not that I'd blame them if they are. In
fact, I wonder what sort of proportion of social scientists in Europe,
excluding economists and psychologists, would straightforwardly answer, Yes
to the question, Are you a scientist?)

Don't know if there's anyone on this list who works in communicating
non-science research? (or rather research that isn't science...)
If so, there are still some spaces at this event -
http://publicengagement.eventbrite.com/
This Thursday, Free, Central London (in old London polytechnic
building - watch out for Pepper's Ghost!). It might be of interest to
sci com'n people anyway - think about how issues are different across
the academy. If anyone's interested the "museum representative" I'm
down as bringing on the programme is from the Wellcome Collection.
