I have never understood how any body can think free verse is
"formless", rather than another possibility of form. But that thought
does explain a lot of so-called "free verse".
Language does shape thought, in the same counterintuitive way that
gesture can shape feeling (neurologists worked out that smiling makes
you happy, for instance). That's why governments are so keen to keep a
handle on it, and why the articulate expression of a nascent feeling
can be so liberating. Also, thought shapes language. When both these
dynamics are in tension, you can get some interesting language.
