It could be worth looking at stats for overall increase in people using Facebook, Twitter etc, and any articles in national newspapers that highlight museums' and other cultural institutions' online presence.
The fact that more museums & galleries are online also helps to drive more visitors to their sites/pages. People will actively look for them if aware that they may be there.
I ought to confess that I'm rather a fan of Museum of London blogs.
