The National Vision User Group forum and mailing lists are open to all, as
Paul says. The archive is browseable by all, but the search facility is
restricted to members only, as are the downloads, to recognise the
contribution of members.
The NVUG list/forum does indeed keep a good uptime, as Paul said. I don't
recall the mailing lists ever being down since I took them over about 6
years ago. The forum was down for about one day once about 4 years ago
after it crashed under heavy load - the delay in getting it back online
was simply because I was off-line at the time, the actual fix took about 5
mins.
It runs on a FreeBSD server, with qmail MTA, using EZMLM for mailing-lists
and which are configured to automatically synchronise with a FUDforum
forum, integrated within a TYPO3 website. (All Open Source products, some
will be pleased to hear :).
