Hi Amy,
We generate all new UCI numbers for all our students.

Subject: UCI numbers
Hi,
I had an interesting discussion at the AOC conference with EO's from other colleges regarding UCI numbers, in particular with WJEC.
For the past 3 years, WJEC have told us that we need to collect the UCI numbers when sending GCSE / GCE entries or Welsh Bacc regs - either from the students themselves from result slips / certificates, or from the schools.
As you can imagine, this is very time consuming.
I was recently made aware that WJEC would provide us with the number for a student, but only after all other avenues had been exhausted (student / school etc).
So, I was very interested to hear that another college created new UCI's for all their students, sent the entries / regs off to WJEC, and then WJEC would then merge the old UCI's into the new ones, retaining the new college-created UCI.
It seems very strange that they do this, when we are asked to collect them ourselves (in 2007, they actually rejected our whole entry file for GCE Jan 2008 exams, as we had created new UCIs).
Can you let me know what happens with UCI's in your college?
Thanks,
Amy
