I would like to know if any therapists/professionals have had negative experiences with parents? I realize the difficulties faced by parents with special needs kids, but some of the behaviors I have witnessed are shocking.
I would like to know if anyone else has experienced things like:
-Parents not following critical advice pertaining to their child
-Parents behaving irrationally or aggressively towards them
-Unfounded accusations towards a professional
-Any journal articles about these issues?
-Parents missing or 'forgetting' scheduled appointments
-Parents telling children with autism 'don't attend university'
-Parents speaking negatively about their own child in front of them
-Parents ignoring emails and other correspondence regarding their child
-parents ignoring or disregarding terms and conditions signed with professional
Or any other stories would be helpful. I find it quite distressing to watch a child with special needs being treated unfairly, inappropriately, being ignored or neglected by their own parents. It is my feeling that if the parents are having some sort of crisis, they should seek the assistance of a professional and not have the child pay for their inability to care for them.
