The message might be misleading. The delay could be in initializing the
model, which involves setting initial values of the nodes and choosing
samplers.
There was some inefficient code that could cause long delays during this
step in JAGS 1.0.x, but JAGS 2.0.0 is now out and should be a lot
better.
