Senior Research Statistician, MRC Biostatistics Unit, Cambridge
MRC band 3. Salary scale £35,935 - £39,723

The Centre for Diet and Physical Activity Research (CEDAR) is a new
initiative in Cambridge, and one of five UKCRC Public Health Centres of
Excellence. Its primary aim is to develop and evaluate public health
interventions in relation to diet and physical activity (see
www.mrc-epid.cam.ac.uk/cedar). It embraces collaborations between Cambridge
MRC Units in Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Nutrition, the University of
Cambridge Department of Public Health and Primary Care, and the University
of East Anglia Department of Health Economics.

A new senior statistics post is key to the development of CEDAR's programme
of research. The post will be based in the MRC Biostatistics Unit
(www.mrc-bsu.cam.ac.uk) but will involve extensive collaboration with
CEDAR's multiple partners as well as others within BSU. The post-holder
will lead the statistical contribution to CEDAR, develop related
methodological research projects, and supervise the work of a junior
statistician (to be appointed). CEDAR's projects include randomised trials
and natural experiments of interventions, evidence synthesis encompassing
both randomised and observational studies, and development of long-term
models for evaluating the cost-effectiveness and public health impact of
interventions.

The post-holder will collaborate on specific projects within the programme,
assist with new proposals for grant funding, and develop training
opportunities for research associates and PhD students. It is expected
that, in due course, the post-holder will manage other junior statisticians
and supervise PhD students.

The post is funded for 3 years in the first instance, but with good
prospects for continuation through an extension to CEDAR's funding.

The post-holder will have a PhD in statistics, or equivalent experience,
together with a track record of published research in medical statistics,
social statistics, epidemiology, public health or related areas. Evidence
of successful working on collaborative or multi-disciplinary applied
research projects is required, together with the potential to lead
methodological research activities.

Your salary will be supported by a flexible pay and reward policy, 30 days
annual leave entitlement, an optional MRC final salary pension scheme.
