EMI Group Archive
Tuesday 13th April 2010
Whatever the culture, whatever the society, wherever there are people, there is music. Throughout most of history, music could only be heard by those immediately around the musician. Music was a live, transient art form. Then, just before the turn of the nineteenth century, everything changed.......
EMI Group Archive Trust is situated within one of the world’s largest and most diverse music archives. Their collections cover many aspects of the music industry, dating from its tin-foil origins in 1877 up to 1946. In addition to material relating to our musical heritage, we also preserve artifacts associated with EMI's achievements in television, radar, and medicine.
The Paper Collection includes, a unique collection of record and gramophone catalogues from around the world, artist files for the majority of artists who have recorded for EMI and Matrix Cards of EMI recordings from 1900 to 1980 and associated Recording Ledgers.
