The primary role of the post-holder will be to provide statistical advice and
support to a research programme based in the University of Oxford Department
of Psychiatry studying the development and evaluation of an SMS based
monitoring and management service for people with Bipolar Disorder. The post-
holder will also participate in the core activities of the Oxford Clinical Trials
Unit in Mental Illness and the Centre for Statistics in Medicine.
The postholder should have a good degree (2:1 or above) with a large
statistical component and ideally a postgraduate degree in statistics, a
substantial part of which relates to medical statistics, or equivalent
experience. Substantial medical statistics experience, supported by a
publication record, as well as experience and demonstrable mastery of study
design and analysis in a real-life setting would be an advantage.
The successful candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary team of
researchers, which also includes an administrator, ethics, legal and clinical
members and international collaborators. The post is based at the Warneford
Hospital in Oxford with strong links to Oxford University Department of
Psychiatry where the successful candidate will have an honorary research
appointment. In addition the postholder will be a member of the NHS support
team at the Centre for Statistics in Medicine. There are currently another 6
members of the team, and the Centre employs a further 10 statisticians, some
of whom work in support roles and others on methodological research.
