New director of Digital Curation Centre appointed
Today, JISC is announcing the appointment of Kevin Ashley as the new
director of the Digital Curation Centre (DCC).
The DCC was set-up by JISC in 2004 to give practical advice and guidance to
colleges and universities on digital preservation, curation and information
management.
Kevin Ashley will start in April 2010, taking over from Chris Rusbridge who
is retiring after six years as DCC’s director.
Rachel Bruce, programme director at JISC says: “JISC would like to thank
Chris for the enormous contribution and impact he has made to ensure that
the Digital Curation Centre is the success it is today.
“His achievements as director include establishing the credibility and
national and international reputation of the DCC, which has in turn ensured
that data curation and management issues are now being more effectively
addressed.
“Kevin Ashley is the former head of the digital archives department at the
University of London Computer Centre and brings with him a wealth of
knowledge of the information management issues facing colleges and
universities. We are delighted that Kevin is taking over the leadership of
the Digital Curation Centre team just as the DCC embarks upon a new phase of
work.”
JISC is funding a third phase of DCC activity (2010 – 2013) with a focus on
building firm foundations for good data curation practice in institutions
and research groups. The principal task of the DCC will be to promote and
facilitate effective knowledge transfer and good practice among data
custodians, producers and users.
The DCC has an ambitious programme of work for the coming years and will be
focused on helping researchers and institutional service providers work
together for mutual benefit.
Kevin Ashley says: “I am fortunate to be joining a centre with an enviable
reputation in its field, a pool of dedicated and expert staff and strong
support from its hosts at Edinburgh, partners at HATII and UKOLN and funders
at JISC. I look forward to broadening the reach and the funding base of DCC
to build on these strengths.”
