Dear all,
I would like to invite you all to our reception next week at PSA.
Unfortunately neither Kristi nor I will be able to attend PSA, but
Sarah Childs and Rosie Campbell have very kindly volunteered to host
our welcome reception at PSA, which will be held on Tuesday 30 March,
1.30-2pm in the George Charlotte room. Tea, coffee and biscuits will
be provided. All are welcome, including members, potential members,
any women attendees at the conference and anyone working on or
interested in the areas of women and gender in politics. Please
invite along anyone you think might be interested.
Please also see below the information from Terrell Carver, encouraging
you all to make our female exchangers feel welcome, as well as to
support a feminisation of the PSA's Constitution, which will be voted
upon in the AGM on Wednesday lunchtime.
Finally, I would like to encourage you to send me details of recent
publications (your own, and any others published in the past six
months which are of relevance to our group), no later than 5 April. I
will then compile these into a newsletter and circulate. This is a
really good means of finding out what others are doing as well as
ensuring an audience for your own work. We are all better scholars
and teachers when we are able to stay up to date with the latest
developments in the literature. It is also the case that work is
increasingly evaluated through metrics such as citation scores. An
important step towards ensuring adequate citations of feminist
literature is ensuring that people know about it - so please do help
me in promoting relevant publications to the group.
Best wishes
Rainbow

Dear Rainbow,
1. As Chair of the International Relations Sub-Committee of the PSA I
have a budget to sponsor presenters from around the world, and for the
last few years I've sent along the female names to the section in case
it's appropriate to alert members to their participation ... along
with a note from me that anything done to make them feel welcome would
be appreciated. The spreadsheet gives names, affiliations, emails and
paper title.
2. Members may or may not have noticed that I've been chairing the
Governance Review of the PSA and that one change where we depart
considerably from the 1950s 'ark of the covenant' original
Constitution is in having the language rewritten to a gender-neutral
or non-gendered standard (leaving aside philosophical and political
issues that arise). We have a quorum of 30 to meet at the AGM and
perhaps a note to members on this would not go amiss ... just turning
up for the vote would be warmly welcomed, not least by me. The AGM is
1230-1400 on Wednesday, 31st March, location in the Programme.
With best wishes,
Terrell
