Thanks Chris and Jeff.
Tim, I was not saying Jeff had 'sold out' at all, just having a play. One's
brain would need to be at the craziest end of an ultradox poetry spectrum to
think appearing appearing on Swifts blog is 'selling out'.
The great thing about me and Jeff, is that we've had our name-calling and
slanging match this time last year, and great fun it was too. I think it is
healthy to have the big blow-out at the beginning because it clears the air
at the start. I think most performers in print must have large egos and an
inflated sense of our own self worth, surely, otherwise why would we try to
inject our opinions on something so potentially inconsequential as a poem,
with the gravity of a WMD weapons inspectors' report?
I remember when setting up last years third All Ireland (live) Poetry Slam
championship final with John Walsh who runs the very healthy North Beach
Nights in Galway. On the second e mail we had a little spat, both speaking
our minds and leaving one another in no doubt about our position on
something, and do you know, subsequently in the following months, this
relationship became one of the most straightforward and hassle free I've
had, because we got the ego nonsense out the way at the beginning and the
only it could go after our first e mail meeting, was up into certainty about
where we both stood.
I love you Tim.
